The role of vaccination in public health

Vaccination is one of the most important tools in public health - helping to prevent the spread of many infectious diseases. Despite the numerous benefits they bring, a section of the public still shows resistance to this form of prevention.

Vaccination and global health

Vaccination is fundamental at a global level. International organisations such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Vaccines (GAVI), are involved in numerous initiatives to promote and implement vaccination programmes. Thanks to their activities, millions of people around the world are given the chance to protect themselves against many infectious diseases.

Despite tremendous progress, many challenges remain. Cultural, logistical and economic barriers often hinder the effective implementation of vaccination programmes in less developed regions of the world. International cooperation and knowledge sharing help to break down these barriers and enable health goals to be met on a global scale.

Vaccinations are one of the greatest medical advances that have changed the face of modern public health. Their role in preventing disease, protecting populations and shaping global health cannot be overstated. Despite the challenges, the continuation and expansion of vaccination programmes remains essential to the health of humanity.

A detailed discussion of these issues will be on the agenda of the forthcoming Patient Organisations Forum, scheduled for 10-11 February 2025 in Warsaw.
